La BBC dio al Casa de Casal de Loivos el espaldarazo de tener una de las seis mejores vistas del mundo. Alabanza ésta merecida ya que la casa se sitúa en lo alto de una colina sobre el increíble Vale do Douro, y todas sus habitaciones se abren hacia la terraza para poder disfrutar de este soberbio paisaje. El paisaje que se divisa es tan impresionante que es fácil olvidarse que la propia casa es un agradable lugar histórico, llena de herencias de familia -como las espléndidas vitrinas que muestran el vestuario de la tris-abuela-, o que los invitados serán mimados por el personal sumamente atento y profesional. Construido en el siglo XVII, perteneciente a la familia de Manuel Pimentel desde 1733, sufrió años de descuido, hasta que en 1991 el actual propietario decidió rehabilitarlo. Las modificaciones incluyen la reforma de los establos y las bodegas convertidos en la sala de estar y en cinco elegantes habitaciones, todas ellas con un panorama espectacular. Hay también una suite de luna de miel anexa que ofrece una absoluta privacidad. A pesar de los muchos rasgos atractivos de la casa, lo que se quedará grabado en la mente del visitante serán, sin duda alguna, estas extraordinarias vistas.

From the terrace behind the house you have the most fantastic view on the river Douro. The pool has the same great view. Breakfast, and an excellent diner, were served on rustic tables outside. The staff is friendly and helpful in organising outings.

We have stayed at this place 11 years ago and came back to enjoy this relaxing atmosphere high over the river. Although the food in the evening is not the highest standard in Portugal, it is still nice to sit together with people from very different countries and talk over dinner and a glass of wine. We were welcomed by a very pleasant and service minded lady, who made sure we were good looked after during our stay

We drove from Porto through stunning valleys of terraced vineyards. We arrived at the tiny village of Casal de Loivos. After taking a while to locate our hotel that looked unassuming from the outside we were speechless when we saw the view we would enjoy for the next 3 days. Breathtaking is an understatement. The rooms are basic but the impression must be gained from including all the fascinating elements of such a nostalgic house. We had a great meal on our first night. We also did a wine tour with the fantastic Paulo from Douro First. It was an incredible day. Very special. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly- making our stay so much better.

Beautiful and very interesting house, very well appointed with lovely furnishings. Very relaxing and welcoming. Amazing position overlooking the Douro valley. Lovely terrace and swimming pool. Dinner and breakfast were excellent - home cooking in traditional style. We were very well looked after and made to feel at home. Access and parking a bit challenging!

The staff were very professional, courteous and friendly. We had booked a room in the annex, but as there had been a mistake in our booking we had a room in the main house instead. The staff were extremely apologetic for the error and were very generous in offering compensation. Thank you for your good will. A 'family' dinner with the other guests was a novel, but delightful experience. The 3 course menu offered quiche and salad for entre; roast veal and vegetables for the main course, and a sumptuous gateau for desert followed by coffee or tea. The food was plentiful and delicious. We also had a bottle of the boutique house wine with our meal and a vintage glass of port to finish. Yes, it was expensive, but for us it was a special treat, in a very special place: delicious food, excellent wine, lively conversation made for a memorable evening. Of course the location is superb with magnificent views over the Duoro valley. Irene, Peter and Andrew Taylor

The place was just perfect for us. Great location. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The space was just stunning and the views were magnificent. The host gave us great recommendations and was very helpful with all small details. We were very happy with our stay!

Das Casa de Casa de Loivos bietet einen phantastischen Blick auf das Douro-Tal. Vor den Zimmern gibt es eine Terrasse, die auch zum Pool führt und den Blick auf das Tal bietet. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet und sehr hilfsbereit. Der Eigentümer nimmt sich der Gäste persönlich an und bietet sehr gut Tipps für Tagesausflüge oder Aktivitäten. Insgesamt ist das Haus etwas in die Jahre gekommen, das wird vom Eigentümer ganz bewusst und authentisch so als Pflege der Geschichte des Hauses gelebt. Trotzdem ist alles sehr gepflegt und die Bäder sind zeitgemäß renoviert.

Wir waren mit der Unterkunft sehr zufrieden. Die Mitarbeiterinnen vor Ort sind sehr nett und engagiert. Leider ist das Frühstück, im Vergleich zu preislich ähnlichen Unterkünften sehr mager. So gab es in 6 Tagen immer Toast, Marmelade, ein Stück Kuchen, Milch, Kaffee oder Tee, 100 ml Saft, Obst und Joghurt nach Verfügbarkeit, eine Sorte Käse und Wurst. Es war damit sehr eintönig. Hier sollte doch ein Umdenken statt finden..
