The fences are made from Eucalyptus, the floors are burnt clear cement, and the window arches and doors are made from reused wood brought from former cocoa farms. Even the artisan jams served at breakfast have been made from cocoa, jackfruit, and coconut grown in the pousada's garden. Etnia Casa Hotel also supports the local charity Awakening Trancoso Association, among others, which defends sustainable tourism and provides free environmental education. 

The surrounding area of Trancoso is also a natural paradise, with stunning beaches and nature reserves. The pousada can organise plenty of activities, which will allow you to make the most of the surroundings. For example, horse riding, kayaking, diving, and many more. If you're looking to learn something of Brazilian culture then you can attend some of the pousada's dance classes (choose from lombarda, zouk lombarda, or capoeira).
